About Nostalgiaholic

I spend my days chained to a stove as a professional cook. Then come home, cook some more, throw on the Lounge Radio, and relax with Crystal and Toni... Nothing gets me more Nostalgic then food...

I love bad flicks, good wine, cheap thrills, old music, and new spins on classic ideas. Yes, everything Crystal says is true, I'm immature and quite simple, but despite all that I'm convinced people find me charming... oh, and I collect Yixing teapots....

Farewell Mr. Conductor

I flipped on the news this morning, and along with truckloads of bad news from the Middle East, massive layoffs in Ontario, and the rising price of gas, I was devastated to learn that “America’s Fastest Rising Fool(e)” George Carlin had died. The brilliant standup comedian and social satirist was famous for his wit, pointed […]

The Man Who Laughs

Let’s be honest… the reason why everyone and their dog is going to see The Dark Knight on July 18th is THE JOKER !!! So lets hit the midnight movie barn for a trip back through the Batman movies of the past, and the men who brought the Clown Prince of Crime to maniacal life.

Black Dynamite… Sucka !!!

If like me, you’re a fan of 1970s ghetto-fabulous flicks like Shaft (1971), Superfly (1972), and Black Fist (1975), then you are gonna dig this. Director Scott Sanders is bringing all that blurry, violent, foul-mouthed, un-PC Blaxploitation madness back to the big screen with Black Dynamite! I’m not sure if it’s tribute or spoof, […]

The Monks - Bad Habits (1979)

It wasn’t until just recently that I was finally able to make contact with other Monk aficionados. Re-live their first, and best, Pop-Punk Masterpiece !!!

Lest We Forget…

Sometimes Nostalgia can turn to melancholy…. Even Stormtroopers need a hug now and then.

The Haircut Hall ‘o Shame

A selection of atrocious hairstyles that had their fifteen minutes of fame, and then got buzzed off just as fast, and the musicians, athletes and actors that made them famous.

Super Mario Pac

Armed with a bubble-propelled FLUDD Backpack, Mario riffs on his legendary 1993 SNES adventure Super Mario World in this freely download-able masterpiece  by Hermitgames. It’s classic, nostalgia-fueled platform loving with a whole new twist ! Much Love.

Vintage Robots, Pixels and Cultists Attack !!!

A couple of quick must-clicks on the Blog scene that I ran across:
First is Wired Magazine’s visual tour through Seattle’s Science Fiction Museum’s new exhibit Robots: A Designer’s Collection of Miniature Mechanical Marvels. A selection of Japanese-made toy robots from the 50s to the 70s are presented with blurbs explaining their contribution to culture. No […]

Happy B-Day Stevie !!!

It just caught the news on WGBO that today is American soul-funk legend Stevie Wonder’s birthday! His impact on music and social awareness is incalculable, and his discography of blues-inspired, synth-funk storytelling is timeless. Stevie’s appearance on Sesame Street shook me, and a whole generation of toddlers to a funky core we didn’t even know […]
